Get to Know Me

David is a proud Lafayette resident and eager to earn your vote for City Council this fall.

I grew up in Boulder County, and have lived all around East Boulder County after graduating from CU in 2012. I was lucky enough to get to know Lafayette during my first stint here in 2016-2017. Having experienced living in most communities in the county, I was eager to return to Lafayette - purchasing my first home in the Beacon Hill neighborhood in 2019.

The opportunity to represent and serve my community is both humbling and exhilarating. I am eager to embark on this journey and contribute my skills, experience, and dedication to the development and progress of our community.

I have had the chance for a diverse range of experience during my professional career. Right out of college, I spent a season in Winter Park managing a ski rental shop. At the end of the winter, I came back to Boulder County and began working for local non-profit, Eco-Cycle. I spent four great years with the Eco-Cycle team, working on environmental advocacy in East Boulder County, including leading the effort for the introduction of curbside composting here in Lafayette.

My next position was with a local B Corp, Eco-Products, as their Sustainability Manager. This was a crash course at the intersection of business and sustainability. I learned first hand that business can be a force for good, and experienced the challenges of navigating critical competing priorities to run a successful and impactful business.

For the last year and a half, I have been fortunate to work as the Environmental Sustainability Manager at Denver International Airport, overseeing our Air Quality, Climate Action, and Waste Diversion efforts. There I manage a team that works tirelessly to be sure that everything we do at DIA (now called DEN) is done in an environmentally responsible way.

My experience is varied - starting with a small community focused non-profit, transitioning to a medium sized business with global aspirations, and now with a large public organization - which gives me a strong understanding of the diversity of economic and community interests in our city.

Professional Experience

I am on the Sustainability and Resiliency Advisory Committee for the City, and previously served on the Waste Reduction Advisory Committee.

In my free time, I coach Ultimate Frisbee locally for the Lafayette High School team - which includes students from Centaurus, Peak to Peak, and some who are home-schooled. Go Warriors!

I am also a board member for Grass Roots Ultimate, where I help to run Ultimate Frisbee leagues and tournaments across Boulder County.

Community Involvement

I currently serve as the President of the Board for Recycle Colorado, a state-wide non-profit that focuses on advancing circular economies & improving recycling across the state of Colorado.

Additionally, I was a founding board member of Sustainable Resilient Longmont during the three years that I lived up there.

My comfort with leadership started early - I am proud to have earned the rank of Eagle Scout with Troop 78 here in Boulder County.

Leadership

I graduated in 2012 from the University of Colorado - Boulder (Go Buffs!) with a BA in Political Science. In 2015, I went back to school, earning a Masters in Public Policy from the University of Denver (Go Pioneers!)

During my studies, I had the opportunity to dive deep on a variety of topics that are important to our community and region, including environmental issues, transportation, housing, among many others.

Education

I live with my longtime partner, Laura (we just got married!), and our three pets, Mira, Luke, and Reyla. If you are walking around in some of our amazing open space, you will probably see me walking with my tall eared and semi well trained pup.

In my free time, I love to play ultimate frisbee in the summer and ski in the winter, as well as scuba dive when I can. I am also an avid gardener who always has extra tomatoes for my neighbors.
